In Japan, Is It Rude To Stare At People?

I think it was in Japan where it's rude to stare at others. If so, then I want to move down there because I have those same beliefs that staring is rude. Over here in America, it's commonplace and people usually have no decency. At least if they're gonna stare, can they at least look away when I catch them ogling at me? It's creepy to say the least. Makes me scared of people. Anyway, is it Japan that doesn't tolerate staring?

Yes, but if it's an "odd" person, it's "okay". For instance, if you went to my hometown, which is a more conservative area, you would be stared at if you were a gaikokujin (if you don't know what that is, you shouldn't be moving there). If someone walked down the street in a full-on dog suit, they'd be stared at.

The point is that most people in America (not to be racist or stereotypic, please excuse me if I am) don't have as much shame as most people in Japan. As in, people don't walk around pushing their friends in shopping carts, which you might see a teenage group doing in America. The strange people you see on TV are just comedians.

My point: it's okay to stare as long as it's the person's fault. If someone was blind or in a wheelchair, people would not stare. Japanese people tend to have better manners compared to the American person, so when they see someone that is purposely trying to break that, they will break their own policy to stop them.

It is actually rude for people to stare at you in America. So I guess you are around a lot of rude people all the time (:. As to your actual question no it is not rude at all to stare at people in Japan. Japanese people do it all of the time. Japan is a place that enjoys order anything out of place is considered weird. I am not saying that Japanese people (or Americans for that matter) mean anything bad when they stare, but they are definitely going to stare and wont be ashamed if they are caught.

its impolite to stare anywhere in the world, but yes in Japan it is considered rude. only a small amount of direct eye contact should happen during a conversation

I don't think it's Japan. You'd be an outsider in Japan though if you moved there. This is since they look highly at themselves as better than everyone. they thought that God made them better than everyone else. I learned it somewhere at school, probably at my history classes.

anyway, few of them are creepy. They make these cartoons where women have pretentiously big breasts. they do have good set of relative customs and beliefs.
