I am in a Japanese class, and I am a good student but I cant figure out what shimasu means. My teacher says it all the time, and I cant figure it out.

します(shimasu) is the polite positive form of the irregular verb する(suru) which has the meaning of 'to do'.
*Note it can also have the meanings of 'to wear', 'to make' , and many other related meanings... but don't worry about all of those at this early stage of your learning.
When you hear your teacher (or anyone else) use this at the end of the sentence it just means that there is doing being done of what ever word came before します :)
And another thing... Your in a class to learn, if you don't understand something ask your teacher... thats what she's there for!!! 頑張れよ!!! v(^_^)v

Shimasu is basic Japanese. It means "to do" something.
for example nihongo wo benkyou shimasu (to study (Japanese)), shukudai wo shimasu (do homework).
