In my class we are currently doing a section on gangs and society and to write a 4 page paper on a gang and what it's about, i chose to do the yakuza. I am in no way looking to join, but how does one join the yakuza? do they accept non japanese? (white, black, vietnamese, filipino, chinese etc) are there any branches of yakuza in the united states?

believe it or not, its not so hard to join them. you can just straight up go to their headquarters or their buildings and ask them respectfully if you could join. they'll ask you questions about how you feel about the society, police, and your relationship with your family. and if they seem to like you, you MIGHT be able to join them. thats the scary part about the yakuza, its almost like any other businesses. other simpler ways are if you have family members or friends, join a bosozoku(biker gang) or any other delinquent related groups and get scouted by the yakuza somehow.

@Vinegar Taster, there are few koreans and chinese, but most of the yakuzas are made up with burakumins or other types of outcast from the society.

Foreigners will have a hard time joining them if you have no idea about the country, but it'll be easy working for/under them such as operating bars, become their bodyguards, or work as their drug trafficker. You'll only end up being used and sent to jail like majority of the chinese and koreans though lol

The Yakuza isn't a " gang ". They are one of the most well organized criminal organizations in the world.

There are many Chinese / Koreans in the Yakuza. But probably no whites / blacks.

You have to know someone to join. And they have different levels of membership.

They're also in the US & Europe.

Try wikipedia.
