Does Japan (or least Tokyo) really have the strictest prison system in the world?

The third episode of the new series of Banged Up Abroad on Nat Geo tells of how the prison system in Tokyo is the strictest (and maybe the worst) prison system in the world? Is that true? If so, then I thought that episodes 15-17 of DeathNote had something going on.

Uh I guess you didn't see the 4th episode then? The turkish prison... STRICT and WORSE are two very very very different terms and meanings.

For example in that episode the girl put extra water on her hair and was told to stop, but she didn't. The prison guard could only yell at her but not beat her. In other countries the prison guard would of beaten her. In America they might of subdued her with a tazer gun or something. Heck she was released after serving 18months, and the guy in Turkey served an additional 30 years then had to escape.

Is prison in Japan strict, yes it is, is it worse NO. Prisons in America are probably worse then Japan. You have roving gangs in American prisons, people getting shanked, drugs getting dealed etc etc etc. In Japan that type of stuff hardly ever happens.

Remember strict is a different word then worse.

Strict is where there is a disciplined regiment, no talking, strict rules.

Worse is where people get raped, killed, tortured, and there are many countries outside of Japan that do that.

as I have never been there (' ';), don't know how strict, however, prisons are to be strict and the prisoners are to be well supervised (controlled) in there. 'controlling' is one of key words to describe Japanese society,though...

I know a person who once worked at Fuchu Prison (a famous prison located in Tokyo), and I remember he WAS very strict for many things and arrogant. But he said that, for example, a pregnant prisoner had been well treated (even FREE Cesarean operation offered!)

The worst prisons are in third world countries. Japan's prisons are very clean. They don't allow TVs or radios in the cells. But they can have a couple of books. They sleep on a futon on the cement floor.I also believe they aren't allowed photos on the walls.

They aren't over-crowded like they are here.

No, but the Japanese do not believe in cuddling people in prison like many countries in the west. The worst in IMO is a tie between, China and N. Korea where torture is not unusual.

It's harsh but I don't think it's the worst. I could be wrong but think Thai prisons are diabolical.

A friend of mine has just been transferred back to the UK after serving three years in a Japanese Prison (Fuchu Shi, Tokyo) for possession of cannabis. He's painfully thin and addicted to Valium they gave him every night but remains thankful he wasn't caught with it three weeks earlier when he'd been in Thailand.

Seoul is undoubtedly South Korea's largest town and among East Asia's financial and ethnic epicentres, you are able to discover more with hotelbye . Seoul is a interesting blend of ancient traditions and cutting-edge electronic engineering, house to countless road food suppliers and large nightlife districts, an extremely high-pressure academic system and serene Buddhist temples, a trend-setting childhood tradition and often smashing conformism, extraordinary structure and countless monotonous lines of grey apartment houses, Seoul is a city filled with stark contrasts. Seoul is an important element of Korea's ethnic heritage.

I don't know if japan prison system is strictest or not.

but I can say that japans prison isn't so bad

I know a lot of prisoners looks healthier and gain weight after they got out of prison.

also they get recovered from ill life style.
