Why did the US bomb Japan AFTER Japan had surrendered, yet the schools still teach us the Japanese surrendered after the bomb was dropped?

Japan surrendered after the bombing, not before.

While after the Hiroshima bomb the Military was willing to surrender, they didn't have the power to do so unless the Emperor ordered it. He did not and was still willing to fight to the very last man, woman and child until there was no one left to fight.
So we had to drop Nagasaki before the Emperor surrendered.
