Question:
Travelling to Tokyo, Kyoto, Hiroshima in Japan by Bullet train?
2013-01-12 06:04:55 UTC
Hey guys! I am planning a trip to Japan.

We are spending:
- 1 week in Tokyo
- 1 week in Kyoto
- 1 night in Hiroshima
Before flying back home via Kansai Airport (Osaka).

Would it be better to:
- Take a bullet train from Tokyo to Hiroshima, then Hiroshima to Kyoto, then Kyoto to Kansai Airport
or
- Bullet train from Tokyo to Kyoto, then Kyoto to Hiroshima, then Hiroshima to Kansai Airport

Also: is it worth spending more than one night in Hiroshima?
We will be visiting the Genbaku dome, Peace Museum and surrounding memorial areas etc and generally walking around, but I'm not sure if there's anything else worth visiting.

Thanks!

You can do it either way, but the smart thing to do would be to get a 1 week JR Rail Pass (you need to get the order for it before you arrive in Japan), then activate it after your 1 week in Tokyo. Then go to Kyoto/Nara/Osaka and Hiroshima and back to Kansai Airport within the week you can use the pass.

You could spend a full day in Hiroshima and Miyajima, spend the night, and the next morning go to Kansai or if at the end of your trip to Kansai airport for your return flight. For Hiroshima City itself there is not much - just the Genbaku Dome/Peace Park, Hiroshima Castle and the Shukkeien Garden, if you like. If you find yourself with some extra time, which is possible, there is also the Mazda car museum.

It would be a tragedy if you spent 1 whole week in Tokyo though. If you haven't been out there yet, go on day trips to see Kamakura, Nikko, and the Fuji 5 Lakes. There are many regional rail passes you can get for the Tokyo area. See

I think that taking a bullet train from Tokyo to Hiroshima, then Hiroshima to Kyoto, then Kyoto to Kansai Airport would be the best thing. And you should spend a night in Hiroshime. Remember to pack lightly, because it's hard to travel with a lot of luggage in the bullet trains. In the Kansai Airport they have bullet trains that can take you directly to the Kyoto Station or Tokyo.

Hope that helps :)

I think the first plan would be the best - Take a bullet train from Tokyo to Hiroshima, then Hiroshima to Kyoto, then Kyoto to Kansai Airport.

HIROSHIMA

Most of the main sights can be seen in one or two full days, with an extra day trip to Miyajima.

The must see places in Hiroshima include:

Genbaku Dome – The Atomic Bomb Dome is a symbol of the destruction and marks ground zero of the atomic bombs blast. It is one of the few surviving structures left from the bomb blast.

Hiroshima-jo Castle – Also known as the Carp Castle, it was reconstructed in 1958 and contains an excellent museum.

Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park – The park is dotted with memorials including the Cenotaph and Peace Flame.

Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum – Located in the park complex, the museum tells the story of the bomb and its destruction. It is an emotional experience.

Mitaki-ji – The Three Waterfalls Temple is just outside of the city center and is a perfect escape from the city. It is beautiful, relatively uncrowded and pleasantly cool during the summer.

Miyajima – The Island of Shrines, features the cultural icon of Itsukushima jinga, a large torii gate that rises out of the sea.

Shukkeien Garden – A beautiful landscape garden located close to Hiroshima Castle. Beautiful in the spring with cherry blossoms and azaleas.

I think the 1st plan is better because KIA is near Kyoto and you do not have to take bullet train one time more with the 1st plan.

>Also: is it worth spending more than one night in Hiroshima?

Personally, I think 1 night is enough.

Tokyo is not only the political and economical centre of Japan but it has also emerged as a centre of the world economy and culture so is a city worth visit; with hotelbye you will see more. There are a number of attractions in Tokyo that should not be missed. There are large-scale downtown areas, including Ginza where famous shops from around the world stand side by side, the sleepless Shinjuku that has become the "new city centre of Tokyo," Asakusa which is reminiscent of the traditional Edo (the former name of Tokyo) and Shibuya that starts the trends for the young people. Tokyo is an interesting city, a city that you will never forget once you visit it.
